ABOUT

"Before Owen Michaels disappears he smuggles a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her. Despite her confusion and fear, Hannah Hall knows to whom the note refers—Owen’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child and wants nothing to do with her new stepmother.

As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered, as the FBI arrests Owen’s boss, as a U.S. marshal and federal agents arrive at her Sausalito home unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was. Bailey just may hold the key to figuring out Owen’s true identity—and why he really disappeared."

THOUGHTS

I had high hopes because of how often it is mentioned, but all that hope vanished as I got further into the book. The beginning was very engaging and kept me turning page after page. I thought this book would be a re-read and one of my favorites, but I was wrong. The plot structure was exactly like that of any other book, and the concept was quite similar to other thrillers I have read. "Nothing outstanding" is a fair summary. The "twist" was maybe somewhat different, but nothing particularly surprising. I also thought the ending was a bit incomprehensible.

RECOMMENDATION

I would not recommend this book to a new mystery and thriller reader. I believe it would create a boring impression of the mystery and thriller genre.

To sum up – a typical mystery/thriller book that did not stand out.
